It was the first time Arsenal had dropped points at home in the Premier League all season as well as the first time they’d failed to score as Newcastle kept a sixth successive clean sheet and went 13 games unbeaten. But The Magpies did ride their luck at times with Arsenal having two penalty shouts turned down in the second half.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said it was ‘scandalous’ that his side weren’t awarded two penalties in the game. VAR did not intervene when Dan Burn pulled Gabriel inside the box or when the ball appeared to hit off Jacob Murphy’s arm in the final moments of the match.

While many Arsenal fans supported the defender's tweet, numerous opposition fans were quick to call the defender 'bitter’ and ‘embarrassing’ for posting the clip after dropping points.
Newcastle fans even suggested that the free-kick that led to the incident should not have been awarded in the first place as Joelinton won the ball fairly.
But Sky Sports pundits Paul Merson and Les Ferdinand were in agreement that a penalty should have been awarded to The Gunners.
"In my opinion it’s stonewall, he's got a complete and utter grab of his shirt, you can see his fist is clenched,” Merson said. “That’s a foul anywhere else on the football pitch.”
