'Had a chat' - Bournemouth boss shares Matthias Jaissle insight ahead of Newcastle United clash
Newcastle United host AFC Bournemouth at St James’ Park in their third Premier League match of the campaign.
AFC Bournemouth boss Marco Rose knows all about Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle, as the pair meet at St James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime.
Rose and Jaissle are products of the Red Bull coaching system, having both managed and won the Austrian league and cup at RB Salzburg. Rose also managed RB Leipzig before succeeding Andoni Iraola as Cherries boss in the summer.
Rose was at Leipzig between 2017 and 2019, while Jaissle was in charge between 2021 and 2023 before moving to the Saudi Pro League to take over Al-Ahli, where he twice won the Asian Champions League.

Jaissle succeeded Eddie Howe as Newcastle boss last month in what has been a summer of major change on Tyneside, but the German has made a promising start, collecting four points from his opening two Premier League matches, as well as advancing into the Carabao Cup third round. Now faces Bournemouth, and a familiar face in Rose.
The Red Bull connection - Marco Rose & Matthias Jaissle
“They are doing well,” Rose said about Newcastle. “I know Matthias from Salzburg, because I was a manager there. He succeeded, not me, but I think the manager after me, or after the manager after me.
“I visited old friends at the training ground, and we met and had a talk, had a chat.
“I know that he is a good coach, that he has an idea of football. He has brought the idea really quickly into the team of Newcastle. They are in a good spot, they are in good shape, they are playing quite intense, they have clear patterns against and with the ball.”
He added: “In general, there is a clear identity to play quite intense, but again it's Premier League so every Premier League team tries to play intense.
“They have different patterns in pressing. It depends on what the opponent is doing. Sometimes it's more man-oriented, sometimes it's more covering spaces with the ball.
“It's a lot about [Anthony] Elanga to get him in a spot to have one-on-ones or threaten the depth with him. They already assisted goals like this.
“We have to take care, we have to defend well, we have to attack. I think we get chances as well in some situations, that's what you can see. These kinds of chances you have to use if you play there.”
