‘Proud’ Bruno Guimaraes posts 52-word Newcastle United statement - Alan Shearer loves it
Newcastle United latest news: Bruno Guimaraes has posted an Instagram message that fans will love following the win over Leeds United - Alan Shearer certainly does.
An emotional Bruno Guimaraes reacted to Newcastle United’s 4-3 win over Leeds United on Wednesday night with a 52-word message on Instagram
The Brazilian, as ever, played a crucial role in helping his side come away with a vital three points on a simply unbelievable night at St James’ Park. Guimaraes grabbed an assist for Joelinton’s goal, scored a penalty which levelled the match in stoppage time before putting in a wicked cross that ultimately fell for Harvey Barnes to dispatch into the bottom corner to secure the famous victory.
Guimaraes now has eight goals for the Magpies this season and has netted in each of his last three outings, having scored against Burnley and Crystal Palace previous to their victory over Leeds. Much like he did against the Eagles at the weekend, Guimaraes popped up just when his side needed him most against Leeds United - adding yet another memorable moment and performance to his ever growing catalogue on Tyneside.
Taking to Instagram post-match, Guimaraes posted a photo of him celebrating Barnes’ late winner with the caption: ‘IT’S ABOUT PASSION FOR THE GAME, FOR FOOTBALL, FOR THIS TEAM, AND FOR MY TEAMMATES! WHAT A FOOTBALL MATCH—WHAT ADRENALINE, AND WHAT AN INCREDIBLE ATMOSPHERE. A GAME TO REMEMBER. THIS TEAM IS A FAMILY, AND WE WILL FIGHT TOGETHER UNTIL THE LAST SECOND. PROUD TO BE PART OF THIS. HOWAY THE LADS 🖤🤍39’.
That post, unsurprisingly, got a lot of support from Newcastle United fans as well as Guimaraes’ teammates. Alan Shearer, who himself enjoyed a great scoring record against Leeds United as a player, responded to the Brazilian, writing: ‘Well done Captain 🖤🤍’.
Harvey Barnes reacts to Leeds United winner
Whilst Guimaraes’ contributions cannot go unnoticed, without the finishing ability of Barnes, there’s every chance the Magpies would have been forced to walk away from St James’ Park with a draw, or potentially even less on Wednesday night. It was his clinical finish that restored parity early on after they had fallen behind following Brenden Aaronson’s early strike.
And then his finish at the end, albeit with some weak goalkeeping thrown into the mix, likely couldn’t have come from any other player in black-and-white: “I don’t think we were by any means at our best but then the way the game finishes, the feeling now, you don’t really care about the performance - it’s more the result,” Barnes said reflecting on the game.

"I don’t really remember it. Swivel hit and then hope. Celebrate. It’s all a bit of a blur. It’s just instinct, get whatever contact you can, and there are that many bodies, anything can happen.
"Everyone knows what the atmosphere’s like up here but when a last-minute winner goes in like that, it’s special.
"We both had spells in the game where we looked in control but as a whole it was quite an even affair. You could see at the end, we were the ones pushing and looking like we were going to score. It’s paid off."
Barnes’ winner was the latest winning goal ever scored by a Newcastle United player in the Premier League.
