Championship side eye audacious swoop for Newcastle United midfielder - reports

Derby County are eyeing an audacious loan move for Newcastle United midfielder Matty Longstaff – according to reports.

The Sunday Mirror claim that the Rams – who have recently appointed former Newcastle boss Steve McClaren as their Technical Director – are eyeing a loan deal for the 20-year-old.

Longstaff penned a new two-year deal at St James’s Park in the summer but has featured just once for the club this term – featuring in the 2-0 defeat to Southampton at the start of the month.

And the Mirror are now reporting that McClaren is keen to use his ‘connections’ on Tyneside to wrap-up a half-season loan move for the midfielder.

Newcastle could look to move on a number of players in the January transfer window, with Rolando Aarons, Christian Atsu, Achraf Lazaar and Henri Saivet among those who are likely to be allowed to leave if a suitable offer comes in.
