DeAndre Yedlin’s deadline day departure for Galatasaray freed up a place in the club’s 25-man squad.

And the winger, signed from Chelsea by Rafa Benitez in 2016, has taken Yedlin’s place ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League home game against Southampton after Steve Bruce picked him ahead of fellow outcast Henri Saivet.

“Christian Atsu comes back into it,” said United’s head coach. “There was only him or Saivet to choose from, so it was pretty straightforward.”

Atsu – who had been available for transfer – hasn’t played a game for United since coming off the bench in a Carabao Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers in September. The 29-year-old, like Saivet, is out of contract the end of season. Yedlin, meanwhile, joined Galatasaray on a free transfer ahead of the summer expiry of his contract.
