£35m new signing makes debut as Newcastle United & Crystal Palace team news confirmed
Newcastle United latest news: Oliver Glasner has named his Crystal Palace team to start at St James’ Park.
Oliver Glasner has named his Crystal Palace team for their visit to St James’ Park.
The Eagles head to the north east sat three places above their hosts, but with just a solitary point separating the two, such is the very tight nature of the Premier League table. Palace haven’t won a match at St James’ Park since the 2020/21 season and have lost by an aggregate score of nine goals to nil in their last two visits.
The latest of those games came back in April when Newcastle United, managed on the touchline by Jason Tindall, ran riot in the first-half, taking a four goal lead. That mad 45 minutes even included time for Palace to miss a penalty before the Magpies doubled their lead.
A much closer game is anticipated this afternoon as Newcastle United look to build on the momentum they earned following victory away at Burnley on Tuesday night. Palace, meanwhile, drew against Fulham on New Year’s Day on their last outing.
Today’s game is a 3pm kick-off at St James’ Park and will mark the first time that Magpies fans have been able to catch their team in action in 2026. It is also the first match that they will play in the January transfer window.
The Magpies are yet to make a move in the market, save for ending Antonio Cordero’s loan spell at KVC Westerlo and switching him to Spanish side Cadiz. Palace, though, have been busy in the window and have already broken their transfer record to sign Brennan Johnson from Tottenham Hotspur.

That move was concluded in the first few days of the window, with Johnson eligible for selection this afternoon: “I'm really excited and I'm really happy,” said the 24-year-old after his transfer to Selhurst Park had been completed.
“Crystal Palace are such a great club, one that I've always admired. It's a great time for me to be here and join the journey that this club is on - I'm super excited.”

Newcastle United, meanwhile, have no new faces in their squad but Howe has been able to call upon the services of Tino Livramento. Livramento was injured against Fulham last month and despite fears that he may have suffered a long-term knee injury, he is back in a matchday squad having missed just three games in all.
Sven Botman and Kieran Trippier have also returned to fitness and will be available to Howe this afternoon. All three begin the game on the bench with Howe making just one change as Jacob Murphy comes in for Harvey Barnes.
