Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has been dealt another huge injury blow with the news in-form defender Ciaran Clark will miss the rest of the season.

Republic or Ireland international Clark has been arguably United’s form defender this season, with the former Aston Villa man keeping the likes of Florian Lejeune and Fabian Schar out the Magpies XI, when fit.

But having limped off at Arsenal nearly a fortnight ago, following a reckless challenge by Bukayo Saka, Clark has damaged ankle ligaments and has been told, according to the Daily Star, that he will not play again in the 2019/20 campaign.

Clark is the third Newcastle defender to be ruled out for the season, following on from Paul Dummett and Jetro Willems, whose season-long loan from Eintracht Frankfurt was cut short by the blow. That deal, though, could well be made permanent in the summer.
