Don't mention Newcastle United! Why Newport County's players aren't talking about Carabao Cup tie

Newcastle United’s visit to Rodney Parade isn’t yet being mentioned in Newport County’s dressing room, according to Michael Flynn.

Steve Bruce’s side have been drawn away to the League Two club in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. The tie will be played on Wednesday, September 30 (5.30pm kick-off) and broadcast live on Sky Sports. However, Newport’s players, for now, are focused on this afternoon’s game against Bolton Wanderers, according to manager Flynn.

"Newcastle hasn't even been mentioned by the boys, so that's credit to them,” Flynn told the South Wales Argus.

Leicester City, Tottenham, Manchester City and West Ham United have all visited Rodney Parade in recent seasons.

“It's continuing the tradition of us bringing a Premier League team to Rodney Parade every season," said Flynn. "I've never had a competitive fixture against Newcastle, so it's something that I’m really looking forward to. Going head to head with Steve Bruce will be good on a personal level, because he’s a very good manager.”
