The change in formation almost worked against Chelsea where Newcastle were just minutes away from holding the European champions to a draw at Stamford Bridge.
For the third game in a row, Newcastle are on the road once again when they make the trip to Goodison Park to face an out-of-form Everton side.
Howe’s side defeated Everton just last month when an own-goal from Mason Holgate and strikes from Ryan Fraser and Kieran Trippier were enough to take all three points.
United set up in a 4-3-3 formation that day - a system that would continue to get results and fire them to a nine-game unbeaten streak. So will Howe revert to that formation for Thursday's game?
Here, we take a look at the Newcastle United line-up that Howe could select to face Everton at Goodison Park:

5. LB: Matt Targett
Week in, week out, Targett has put in very solid performances at left-back and is an obvious starter for Howe at this moment in time. Photo: Dan Mullan

6. CM: Joe Willock
Willock's improved form means he was a big miss for the game with Chelsea as Newcastle often struggled to get runners from midfield to join the attack. If he is fit enough to start, then his dynamism in midfield could be a great boost for the Magpies against Everton. Photo: Marc Atkins

7. CM: Bruno Guimaraes
After starting for the first time against Southampton, Guimaraes put in another great display at Stamford Bridge. With a 16 day gap between games after the Everton clash, there should be no reason the Brazilian cannot start for the Magpies again at Goodison Park. Photo: Clive Mason

8. CM: Sean Longstaff
Despite not seeing much first-team action recently, Longstaff slotted into the midfield well against Chelsea and alongside Guimaraes put in a solid shift against strong opposition. If Shelvey and Willock are unavailable again, then Longstaff is a very good back-up option. Photo: Stu Forster
