Newcastle United come into Saturday’s game on the back of a good win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup in midweek. Eddie Howe made five changes for that game from their defeat at Stamford Bridge 72 hours previous, as the Magpies entered a crucial period of the season.
Anthony Gordon was deemed fit enough to start in midweek after missing their defeat against the Blues at the weekend with a groin injury, Joelinton was returned to a left-wing role whilst a midfield trio of Sean Longstaff, Sandro Tonali and Joe Willock offered the side great balance. The performances of Lloyd Kelly and Emil Krafth in defence will also give Howe a few decisions to ponder ahead of the visit of Arsenal.
Newcastle United won this game in controversial fashion last season, but were hammered away at the Emirates Stadium in the reverse fixture in February. Arsenal sit third in the Premier League table ahead of their trip to the north east but were unable to defeat Liverpool on home turf in their last outing.
Here, we take a look at the Newcastle United starting XI that Howe could name for his side’s clash with Arsenal. Would you like to see this team start at St James’ Park? Follow us on our social media channels and let us know your thoughts there.
