However, was for one Newcastle United player the game was memorable. Elliot Anderson, an 18-year-old midfielder, made his Premier League debut late in last night’s 3-0 defeat to Arsenal. The brief appearance followed an appearance in the club’s FA Cup defeat at the same stadium earlier this month.

“Well, he’s got a big future ahead, that’s for sure,” said United head coach Steve Bruce. “He’s been training with us and looking the part. He had a little cameo here in the cup a cup of weeks ago. He’ll remember his debut at the Emirates, that’s for sure.”

The appearance, it’s hoped, will be the first of many for Elliot, who is from Whitley Bay and is a Scotland youth international.
