The campaign saw Newcastle subject to a £300million takeover in October, go on a 14 game winless start to the season, appoint Eddie Howe as head coach, spend £92million on new players in January and climb out of the relegation zone to finish 11th in the table.
It was eventful to say the least as The Magpies became the first Premier League side to survive despite failing to win any of their opening 14 matches.
Over the course of the campaign, Newcastle utilised 29 different players – all of whom have received at least one match rating out of 10 courtesy of the Shields Gazette.
Looking back over the course of the season, we have compiled all of our individual player ratings from every match to see which player comes out on top with the highest average rating.
Players must play over 15 minutes of normal time in order to earn a player rating mark. We have also not included any player who earned less than 10 ratings during the 2021-22 season in our main list.

Number of ratings: 4. While Lewis was solid when he played for Newcastle under Eddie Howe, injury troubles saw him left out of the squad for the second half of the campaign. He did not earn enough match ratings to be ranked. Photo: Stu Forster
6. Paul Dummett - 6.33 (n/a)
Number of ratings: 3. Despite being limited to just three appearances all season, Dummett was handed a new contract to extend his stay at St James’s Park. Photo: Stu Forster
7. Kieran Trippier - 7.29 (n/a)
Number of ratings: 7. Trippier may not have got on the pitch as much as he would have liked following his January arrival due to injury, but when he did he most certainly demonstrated his class. Photo: Stu Forster
8. Jeff Hendrick - 7.5 (n/a)
Number of ratings: 2. The midfielder didn’t feature enough times to warrant a ranking. But his solid performance in the League Cup against Burnley and his goal off the bench against Wolves mean his average rating is technically the highest of any Newcastle player this season at 7.5.
