This summer could be a very busy one on Tyneside with huge numbers of players in and out expected.
The Saudi-led takeover of the club means that Newcastle now have great resources to use in the transfer market - but spending big money on one player doesn’t necessarily guarantee success.
Newcastle may break their transfer record this window, but fans will want to see money spent wisely and not just thrown at a big name player because of ‘name value’.
So what can Newcastle learn from other Premier League sides if they are to spend big on players this summer?
Here, using data provided by Transfermarkt, we take a look at each Premier League club/s record transfer and assess how their time at the club has panned out.

9. Aston Villa

10. Wolves
Fabio Silva joined Wolves for £36,000,000 in September 2020. Four goals and six assists for Silva at Wolves is not a great return, however, at just 19, Silva has plenty of time to develop at Molineux. Photo: Naomi Baker

11. Newcastle United
Joelinton joined Newcastle United for £40,000,000 in July 2019. After struggling as a centre-forward, a move into midfield last season saw the Brazilian completely transform his career and he has now turned into one of the most dominant midfielders in the league. Photo: Luke Walker

12. Leicester City
Youri Tielemans joined Leicester City for £40,500,000 in July 2019. The Belgian has been a great player for the Foxes since joining from Anderlecht, however, with his contract expiring next summer, it’s likely that Leicester will look to offload the 25-year-old this summer. Photo: Alex Livesey
