Every team relegated from the Premier League after winning three in a row – Newcastle United looking to avoid the fate of Crystal Palace, West Ham, Middlesbrough and more
Newcastle United have eased some relegation worries with three straight wins in the Premier League.
Eddie Howe’s side have beaten, Leeds United 1-0, Everton 3-1 and Aston Villa 1-0 in their last three matches in the top flight and have moved up to 17th, four points clear of the relegation zone, in the process.
It is the first time United have won three consecutive league matches since November 2018, when they were managed by Rafa Benitez.
Winning three consecutive matches is tough in the Premier League, particularly when you’re at the wrong end of the table.
In fact, Newcastle are the only team outside of the top eight to have gone on such a run so far this season.
While that certainly bodes well in their fight to avoid relegation, there have been several cases of teams going on winning streaks of three games or more and still suffering relegation.

5. West Brom - 2002-03
After losing their opening three matches of the Premier League season, West Brom won three in a row against Fulham, West Ham and Southampton all by the same 1-0 scoreline. They went on to win just three of their remaining 32 league matches and were relegated after finishing 19th on 26 points. Photo: Mike Finn-Kelcey
West Ham United put together arguably one of the best runs of form of any side relegated from the Premier League as they lost just one of their final 11 matches of the 2002-03 season. Of those 11 games, they won six which included three straight wins against Middlesbrough, Manchester City and Chelsea. It still wasn't enough as an impressive squad including the likes of David James, Michael Carrick, Lee Bowyer, Jermain Defoe, Paolo Di Canio, Freddie Kanoute and Joe Cole were relegated after finishing 18th on a lofty 42 points - a Premier League record for a relegated team during a 38 game season. Ipswich have the unfortunately impressive record of being relegated despite putting not one but two three game winning streaks together during the season. A ridiculous run of seven wins from eight matches included three wins in a row against Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City and Sunderland which was stopped by a 3-2 defeat against Charlton Athletic. Straight after that, The Tractor Boys won four in a row, beating Tottenham (again), Derby, Fulham and Everton to climb up to 12th in the table. But they won just one of their final 13 matches and were relegated after finishing 18th on 36 points. Photo: Shaun Botterill
Nottingham Forest's most recent stint in the English top flight ended with three straight wins once the club's relegation was already confirmed. Forest ended the 1998-99 campaign with wins over Sheffield Wednesday, Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City but still finished 20th on 30 points. Photo: Jamie McDonald
