Ex-Newcastle United and Sunderland target signs for Carlisle United
Hebburn Town manager Kevin Bolam revealed his delight after striker Cedwyn Scott completed a move to SkyBet League Two promotion challengers Carlisle United.
The former Dundee and Dunston UTS frontman joined the Cumbrians on trial in December and has now agreed a short-term deal to keep him at Brunton Park until the end of the season.
Scott has been in sparkling form this season and plundered his way to 22 goals in just 16 appearances to help the Hornets move six points clear at the top of the Ebac Northern League table.
His form captured the attention of the likes of Sunderland and Morecambe, and the striker also spent a month on trial with Newcastle United.
However, he will now return to the professional game with Carlisle and Hebburn manager Bolam believes it is reward for the hard work Scott has put in since he joined the club from Dunston in early 2020.
He told The Gazette: “We are over the moon that the lad will get an opportunity to play in the Football League with a club that are challenging at the top end of of League Two.
“We are very proud to help him on his way and the fact he is such a humble lad just makes it even better.
“He has come out of his shell during his time at the club and we are all delighted for him.
“Carlisle are getting someone with a willingness to learn off the pitch and someone that has the right mentality on the pitch.
“His movement and anticipation have improved and that’s something you can’t really coach.
“I spoke to Chris Beech at length today and we had a good chat about non-league and football in general.
“He echoed everything I have seen and said about Cedwyn.
“We just wish Cedwyn all the best and hopefully he can earn himself a longer deal between now and the season.”
Hebburn will not receive a fee for Scott as he was not a contracted player, but Carlisle have agreed to visit the Green Energy Sports Ground for a pre-season friendly in the future.
