Hide AdElliot is still working his way back from an operation on a shoulder injury – but has taken the time to help out Williamson by working with Heed goalkeepers James Montgomery, Harrison Male, Sam Guthrie and Adam Cameron.
The 34-year-old oversaw Male and Montgomery’s pre-match preparations ahead of Saturday’s win against Guiseley and was sat on the home bench at the International Stadium as the latter went on to keep a well deserved clean sheet.
After the game Williamson confirmed that Elliot had “a few irons in the fire”, but has had some “valuable input” into the Heed’s preparations in training and on matchday.

Hide AdHe told The Gazette: “Rob is one of my good friends and he’s a great character, a lovable character.
“All of the boys have taken to him really well.
“He’s getting himself fit, he’s still got a few irons in the fire, but it’s mutually beneficial for us and Rob.
“He is helping out as much as he can, he’s working with the keepers every day and he’s had some valuable input today.
“I think the lads responded well to that.”

Hide AdElliot could not help but be impressed with the performance that Gateshead number one James Montgomery put in as he returned from injury to keep a clean sheet against Guiseley.
The former Forest Green Rovers keeper made three stunning stops inside the opening ten minutes to give his side a platform to claim their first win in five games in all competitions.
Williamson hailed Montgomery’s performance and revealed his delight at his return to action.

“He’s a great lad and such a big character for us in the squad.
“He’s a leader, he’s a big voice and he’s made some world class saves today.
“We are pleased for him.”
