Steve Clarke is hopeful of appointing the former Newcastle United coach and caretaker manager as his assistant after Kilmarnock manager Alex Dyer stepped down from his role with the national team.
“I’m looking for a new assistant or a new coach to come in,” said former United coach Clarke. “I’ve spoken to John Carver, who I’ve known for a long, long time. He’s out of work at the moment, and is enthusiastic to come and join us.

Carver kept Newcastle in the Premier League in 2015 after taking over from Alan Pardew, who had left the club to join Crystal Palace midway through the campaign.
