FA Cup draw: Newcastle United, Leeds United, Sunderland & co find out Fourth Round opponents
FA Cup draw: Newcastle United, Leeds United, Sunderland & co learn who they will face in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup.
Newcastle United discover their opponents for the Fourth Round of the FA Cup following their win over AFC Bournemouth at the weekend.
Newcastle United needed extra-time and penalties to overcome Eddie Howe’s former side at St James’ Park on Saturday. The Cherries thought they had won the tie in normal time before Anthony Gordon netted a stoppage time penalty to force extra-time.
It was then Newcastle United’s turn to wrongly think they had triumphed when Harvey Barnes, as he had done in midweek against Leeds United, popped up with a late goal to send St James’ Park into ecstasy. However, Marcus Tavernier’s strike in added-time of extra-time ensured the tie would be settled via spot-kicks.
18 penalties later and the Magpies had triumphed 7-6 with Aaron Ramsdale saving from Bafode Diakite to earn his side the win and book their spot in a third-successive Fourth Round draw. Elsewhere on Saturday, Sunderland required penalties to defeat Everton, whilst Manchester City put ten past League One Exeter City.
Holders Crystal Palace were dumped out by sixth-tier Macclesfield whilst Chelsea defeated Charlton Athletic in Liam Rosenior’s first match in charge of the Blues.
On Sunday, Arsenal defeated Portsmouth and there were also wins for Leeds United against Derby County and Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford as Manchester United fell at the first hurdle of a domestic cup competition for the second time this season.

Newcastle United to discover FA Cup Fourth Round opponents
Newcastle United’s reward for beating Bournemouth at St James’ Park is a Fourth Round tie away against Aston Villa at Villa Park.
The FA Cup Fourth Round will be played over the weekend of Saturday 14 February and Sunday 15 February. Newcastle United have an away Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur scheduled on Tuesday 10 February (7:30pm kick-off) and, assuming they qualify for the play-off round of the Champions League, will also have a game to play in the midweek that immediately follows the FA Cup Fourth Round.
Other notable ties include Sunderland travelling to Championship side Oxford United, Manchester City hosting either Salford City or Swindon Town and Macclesfield at home to Premier League side Brentford.
