Newcastle United pushing to agree first deal with 'unbelievable' player ahead of the summer - contract offered
Newcastle United contracts: The club are hoping to tie Fabian Schar down to a new contract imminently.
Newcastle United are looking to secure a new short-term contract with Fabian Schar with Ross Wilson in negotiations with the defender.
The club are understood to have offered Schar a new deal that would keep him at the club until June 2027.
Schar is Newcastle’s longest continually serving player having joined the club from Deportivo La Coruna in 2018 and has gone on to make over 250 appearances for the club.
But his most recent outing came back in January, with injuries ultimately cutting his 2025/26 campaign short.
Newcastle have already announced that Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth will leave the club when their contracts expire at the end of June. Schar’s contract is also set to expire at the same time but the club have made no formal announcement regarding his future.
NUFC want Fabian Schar to stay
And head coach Eddie Howe is hoping the club can reach a ‘successful conclusion’ with the defender and tie him down to a new deal.
“I've had a few discussions with Fabi,” Howe said. “Discussions are now with Ross [Wilson] and [Schar’s] agent, hopefully we come to a successful conclusion.
“We want Fabian to stay. I think he's got a lot to offer. I think we've missed him since he's been injured. We've missed his distribution and his passing from deep has been a big miss for us. The way he accelerates our attacks.
