Fenerbahce eye move for Newcastle United flop as Steve Bruce set to keep job amid takeover talk – report

Newcastle United’s desire to persist with three-goal, £40million frontman Joelinton could be tested in the next transfer window with Turkish giants Fenerbahce reportedly keen on the forward.

The Brazilian’s arrival smashed United’s transfer record last summer, dwarfing the £21million the Magpies paid for Miguel Almiron in January 2019.

But the former Hoffenheim frontman has struggled in England, scoring just one Premier League goal and two in the FA Cup.

According to Turkish newspaper Fotomac, the Istanbul outfit want Joelinton to spearhead their potential Champions League campaign next season but Fener would only be able to finance a loan deal for the 23-year-old.

Elsewhere, the Daily Mail are reporting that Steve Bruce will get the chance to continue in his role should Amanda Staveley, PIF and the Reuben Brothers be given the green light in their takeover attempts.

United have been linked with moves for former AC Milan and Juventus manager Max Allegri in the Italian press, with Rafa Benitez another name in the frame, although he is understood to have a release clause of more than £20million written into his Dalian Yifang deal.

Meanwhile, former England and Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Newcastle United fans will be ‘blinded’ by the riches of potential new Saudi Arabian owners – but he does not think they should be criticised for that.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “It will get a lot of attention in the press and maybe will be criticism at certain times.

"I think for most Newcastle supporters they just want someone who will invest in their club and get it to be great again.

"Whether you say that is right or wrong that’s not just the case with Newcastle but is the same with every football supporter. I think we can all be morally realistic at different times but when it’s our own club and our situation with a chance of success we may be all a bit blinded to it really.

"Listen, it’s not perfect and it’s not right, but I am not going to sit here and ruin the news for Newcastle supporters."
