Lampard wanted to take Given with him from Derby, where he is currently part of the backroom team, but that deal, according to the Daily Mail, was knocked back in the summer.

And Lampard looks set to make a renewed approach for Given, who is one of Newcastle’s all-time leading appearance holders.

The report states: “When he was appointed Chelsea manager in the summer, Lampard wanted Given to make the move along with first-team coaches Jody Morris and Chris Jones.

“The switch was resisted by the board at Stamford Bridge who were keen to promote Henrique Hilario into the role vacated by Maurizio Sarri's goalkeeping coach Massimo Nenci and keep threads of continuity running through the club despite regular managerial changes.”
