Gary Lineker posts brilliant seven-word tweet about Newcastle loanee Joe Willock, Alan Shearer weighs in

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have both taken to Twitter to emphasise the impact that Newcastle United loanee Joe Willock had against Leicester City on Friday night.

The Magpies stormed to a 4-2 win over the Foxes to lift themselves up to 13th in the table – 12 points clear of the relegation places.

Willock opened the scoring partway through the first half before an Allan Saint-Maximin strike and a double from Callum Wilson wrapped up a stunning display from Steve Bruce’s side.

That opener from the 21-year-old was his fourth goal in four consecutive matches, and his fifth in total since joining the club on a temporary basis from Arsenal in January.

The impact of Willock’s performance was not lost on Match of the Day host Lineker either.

Responding to a tweet from BBC Sport asking whether the midfielder will be in contention for a starting role if and when he returns to his parent club this summer, die-hard Leicester fan Lineker said: “Wish he was starting for Arsenal now.”

And the ex-striker wasn’t the only pundit to be blown away by Willock on Friday night.

Replying to the same question over whether Willock would return to a starting berth in north London, Toon legend Shearer said: “Hopefully not, no!!!”

The former Magpie wasn’t finished there, however, and took great delight in gloating over his colleague after the final whistle, tweeting: “Are we all on Match of the Day tomorrow night, Gary Lineker?

"This game should be on first I reckon. What you think, Ian Wright?”

Wright himself has heaped praise on Willock in recent months following his successful loan stint.
