The result against the Seagulls leaves the Magpies just two points above the top-flight’s relegation zone with head coach Steve Bruce feeling the pressure from supporters.

Indeed, Don Hutchinson delivered his verdict on Bruce following the drubbing – and made an interesting Brighton prediction.

The former Sunderland, West Ham United and Scotland attacking midfielder tweeted: “Graham Potter with the Newcastle squad the way Brighton play. I reckon Potter would have Newcastle 11th-13th.”

Steve Bruce is feeling the heat at Newcastle United.

Similarly, ex-Newcastle and Black Cats striker Michael Chopra added: "I'm very surprised SB has not yet been sacked by the club.

“He calls himself a Geordie and it's his boyhood club.

“If this was the case and he cared one bit about the club he would listen to the fans, hold his hands up and admit he is not the right man to take our club forward.”
