Here's why there's a glimmer of hope for Newcastle United and the Premier League
The Bundesliga could be back underway in weeks – giving a glimmer of hope to the Premier League.
The division’s 18 teams have restarted training ahead of a planned return to competitive action early next month, and it’s hoped that the remaining fixtures will be completed by the end of June. The games will be staged behind closed doors, and a number of special measures will be taken to protect players and staff.
The Bundesliga was suspended last month because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, the Premier League, suspended indefinitely with the country in lockdown, also hopes to complete its fixtures, most likely in June and July.
Newcastle United stand to lose an estimated £40million if the season can’t be completed, and Premier League will follow what’s happening in Germany. Chief executive Richard Masters said: “Like much of the productive economy in the UK, we’re losing revenue at an unprecedented level.”
