Supercomputer predicts where Rangers and Celtic would sit in Premier League table - How does it affect Newcastle United?

The prospect of Rangers and Celtic joining the English Premier League is one that has been touted for a long time now.

The Glaswegian giants are, without a doubt, the two most dominant forces in Scottish football, and their duopoly over the game north of the border has naturally led to musings on whether or not they should be offered a spot in the English pyramid, as well as sparking widespread debate over how they would fare.

Well, wonder no more, because the boffins in bettingexpert.com's research lab have been totting up the numbers on their fingers to figure out exactly how the Old Firm would perform.

The data looks back over how Rangers and Celtic have got on against English clubs over the years to determine a points per game average, and to use that tally to see where they would likely be sat in the English top flight this season after 34 matches.

A Bettingexpert.com spokesperson said: “Rangers have typically struggled when facing Premier League opponents, but one caveat is their impressive title win this season, as well as a strong run in the Europa League that could give them a better chance in the Premier League than history suggests.

“Celtic have experienced a dip this year, but recent results against English clubs suggest they might be better suited to coping with a significant step up in quality.”
