Huge Anthony Elanga injury update drops before Newcastle United face Crystal Palace

Anthony Elanga has not featured in the Premier League since the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on September 5.

Anthony Elanga is reportedly back in training and pushing to be involved against Crystal Palace this weekend.

An impressive start to the campaign saw the Swede bag goals against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. It is no secret that Elanga endured a poor debut campaign but he appeared to have a new lease of life under Matthias Jaissle.

However, a hamstring injury suffered in training before the Leeds United game ruled the winger out for six weeks. Fortunately for Newcastle, a three-week international break softened the blow.

But the Magpies have failed to look as cohesive going forward without Elanga’s blistering pace. Jacob Murphy and Matias Fernandez-Pardo filled in on the right flank against Hull City, Coventry City and Aston Villa but to little avail.

Anthony Elanga update

Jaissle revealed last week that Elanga is rehabilitating well and would soon return to training. According to the Daily Mail, the 24-year-old has featured in group sessions and hopes to be involved on Sunday.

It may be too soon for Jaissle to name Elanga in the starting line-up at Selhurst Park but the noises are positive. As for Jacob Ramsey - another player the Toon boss noted could return from injury - his situation remains unclear.

Elsewhere, Amar Dedic is inching towards full fitness and will also push to make the Palace team sheet. Aston Villa proved too soon for the Bosnian who also enjoyed a bright start to the season until suffering a hamstring problem.

What Matthias Jaissle said about Anthony Elanga

Speaking about Elanga last week, Jaissle said: “Unfortunately, Anthony’s (been) out for many, many weeks and now it's the process of bringing him back slowly but surely in a smart way, so we are not in too much of a hurry.

“Hopefully next week he's about to train again with the group, at least partially, and then we need to reintegrate him again step by step. But we miss him a lot. I can't wait to have him back in the squad.”
