Newcastle United have been dumped out of the FA Cup following a comfortable 2-0 win for Manchester City at St James’s Park.
Yet it could all have been so different had sub Dwight Gayle not fired an effort over the bar from six-yards out when the game was in the balance, with City leading 1-0 thanks to Kevin De Bruyne’s penalty.
Moments after the miss, Raheem Sterling scored the all-important second.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Alan Shearer summed it up: ‘Six yards out, it is harder to miss.'
Over on Twitter, NUFC fans were quick to have their say:
@lewis_davy: ‘I honestly don't know how Gayle missed that...... That was harder to miss’
@RoyalToon1: ‘Championship player’
@Sloan_12: ‘Mitro buries that’
@30kglucas: ‘I’m done’
@MDarpo: ‘Can't afford missing chances like that if you wanna win games.’
