'I will stay, 100%': International defender reaffirms his commitment to Newcastle United

Emil Krafth has reaffirmed his commitment to Newcastle United.

Friday, 25th June 2021, 4:45 pm

The defender has spoken about his club future while with Sweden, his country, at Euro 2020.

Krafth, signed from Amiens two years ago, was linked with a move away from the club last summer.

The right-back had a tough first 18 months at Newcastle, but he found some form as a makeshift central defender late in the season in a back five. Krafth believes he is now “thriving” at the club – and on Tyneside.

“I assume that I will stay,” Krafth told Fotbollskanalen. “I have two years left on my contract. As it looks now, I will stay, 100%. You know that things can happen overnight when it comes to football, but I thrive very well in the club and the city. I really want to stay.”

Krafth feels that things have gone “better and better” for him at Newcastle.

“I feel like things have gone better and better,” said the 26-year-old. “We’ve changed the system, and it may not have fitted me like a glove.

“I’m a right-back in a back four, but, at the beginning when I came to Newcastle, I played as a wing-back, with three at the back. I’m not the winger who challenges my opponent that way, but I drive more on overlaps.

“It did not fit me like a glove, even though I played a lot when I arrived. But, in the end, I played as one of three in a five-man defence, and it becomes more of a full-back role, it feels a bit more like my position.”
