Lazaro was signed in the January transfer window on loan from Serie A giants Inter Milan – and United do have the option to make the temporary deal permanent when the window reopens, with a fee of around £20million thought to be enough to get the Austrian international tied down.

But, in an interview with Austrian outlet Sport.oe24.at, Lazaro has dropped a hint at where he sees his long-term future.

“Yes (Lazaro is still learning Italian). It is always nice to learn something new. It is a broadening of horizons,” he said.

When asked about the option-to-buy, Lazaro continued: “ I don't need to worry about that at the moment. My big goal was to play regularly again. Yes, whether the call option is taken now, there are several factors at play. I also have to decide what is right for me.”
