Ryan Fraser helped Scotland move within one game of Euro 2020 last night.

The Newcastle United winger came off the bench against Israel at Hampden Park last night. The game ended goalless after extra time, and Scotland won 5-3 on penalties.

Steve Bruce had asked Steve Clarke to be careful with Fraser, who is yet to start a Premier League game for Newcastle, having gone six months without playing any football before joining the club as a free agent.

Speaking last week, Bruce said: “We’ve had a big conundrum with Ryan,” said United’s head coach. “He hadn’t played since March, he hadn’t even trained either, really. It’s OK running on treadmills, and running round athletic pitches, but it’s not the same. I expect him to get better, and we hope that Scotland treat him with the respect he deserves, because he hasn’t played a lot. I’m sure they will.”

Fraser came off the bench in the 84th minute, and didn’t take a penalty.
