Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has agreed a £300million takeover of the club with financier Amanda Staveley and property developers David and Simon Reuben.

Amnesty International have already voiced opposition to the deal because of the country’s human rights record, and Hatice Cengiz – whose fiancee was killed inside the Saudi embassy in Turkey in 2018 – has issued a statement on Twitter.

“UK authorities and the Premier League should not allow someone like (Saudi Crown Pricne) Mohamed Bin Salman – who has yet to face any accountability for the murder of my late fiancee – to be so involved in sports in the UK,” said tweeted. “Doing otherwise will greatly stain the reputation of the Premier League and the UK.

“I strongly urge UK authorities and the Premier League to intervene to stop the takeover of Newcastle United.”
