Jamal Lewis decision explained ahead of £15m Newcastle United move

Jamal Lewis is on Tyneside to complete a proposed £15million move to Newcastle United – after a “tough” week waiting for his future to be resolved.

The Norwich City left-back was yesterday allowed to leave the Northern Ireland set-up ahead of their game against Norway, and national team manager Ian Baraclough spoke about the 22-year-old’s situation after the 5-1 defeat at Windsor Park.

“It’s been a tough week, mentally,” said Baraclough. “He was feeling something, a little niggle, and we couldn’t take a chance, but he wanted to play.

"He’s got the high probability of seeing his move to Newcastle come through, so hopefully he comes back in a different frame of mind. He’s had a lot to contend with over the last week or 10 days, and it’s not helped matters.”

Newcastle yesterday signed striker Callum Wilson and winger Ryan Fraser.
