Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben has opened a new hotel in New York City as part of a significant investment in the US property market.

Reuben Brothers, who have also invested heavily in redevelopments in Newcastle City Centre, have branched out to New York. Over the last six years, the company has invested $6billion of its own money into the US market, according to company documents.

In late 2020, the Reubens purchased The Surrey Hotel in Manhattan’s Upper East Side for an estimated $150million from the Kaufman Organisation. The landmarked 1920s property is located on East 76th Street between Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue and has Central Park on its doorstep. The hotel has officially re-opened this week and comes with a classy Newcastle United touch.

A year after purchasing The Surry Hotel, Reuben was part of the consortium that purchased Newcastle United Football Club in October 2021. RB Sports & Media, an off-shoot of Reuben Brothers, owns a 15% stake in the club with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund owning the remaining 85%.

Reuben is on the board of directors at Newcastle but remains active in his other ventures outside of football. Still, the Newcastle connection can be seen at The Surrey with a ‘Newcastle United’ flag flying above the hotel’s main entrance.

While Magpies fans will love the touch, rooms at the hotel are currently priced at $1,500 per night. Corinthia Hotels will manage the hotel after agreeing a partnership with Reuben Brothers. Back on Tyneside, Newcastle have recently announced the appointment of Ruben Brothers-linked head of property Roger Thornton alongside Reuben on the club’s board of directors.
