Premier League rules block Newcastle United star from playing v Arsenal - quality replacement lined-up

Newcastle United team news: Anthony Gordon, Tino Livramento, Fabian Schar, Emil Krafth and Joelinton will be unavailable to feature at Arsenal.

Newcastle United are without several key players for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Arsenal (5:30pm kick-off).

Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento will miss the match due to injury while Fabian Schar and Emil Krafth remain sidelined.

The Magpies will also be without Joelinton, who will serve the second of his two match suspension.

Joelinton was shown his 10th yellow card of the Premier League season in the 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park following a challenge on Jean-Philippe Mateta. He missed the defeat against Bournemouth as a result and will remain banned for the trip to the Emirates Stadium.

As per Premier League rules, any player who is booked 10 times in their club’s opening 32 matches is handed an automatic two-match ban.

Unfortunately for Joelinton and Newcastle, the player would have avoided a ban altogether had he not been booked against Palace as the 32-game threshold would have passed.

He is set to be back available for next Saturday’s match against Brighton & Hove Albion at St James’ Park (3pm kick-off).

Newcastle United midfield boost

Despite Joelinton’s absence, Newcastle have been boosted by the returns of Bruno Guimaraes and Lewis Miley from injury in recent weeks.

Miley has started the last two matches while Guimaraes came off the bench in the Bournemouth match.

But Howe has hinted that the Newcastle captain could return to the starting line-up at the Emirates Stadium.

Howe told The Gazette: "He's had a full week of training and he's trained really well. I've been very pleased with him.

“It's been tough for him. I think you could see against Bournemouth that he came on with all the right intentions to deliver a really good physical performance, but you could see that he was struggling at times physically to adapt to the pace because he really had minimal training. But he was playing on heart and spirit and determination.

"But the week he's had this week will serve him really well. He's such an important player for us on so many levels that, of course, we're keen to get him on the pitch as quickly as possible, but I've just got to make sure it's not to his detriment.

"It's been great to have him back around the group, though. He's such a positive person that he can only help and inspire the players around him."
