Kyle Walker-Peters has revealed what Jonjo Shelvey told him before he made his Tottenham Hotspur debut.

Walker-Peters made his first appearance for the club in a 2-0 win over Newcastle United in August 2017.

And the defender, 23, has spoken about what midfielder Shelvey said in the St James’s Park tunnel before the game, which was Newcastle’s first in the Premier League following promotion under Rafa Benitez.

“I was actually quite nervous,” Walker-Peters told Copa 90. “In the tunnel before – you know the Newcastle stadium, it’s quite tight in the tunnel – and I remember Jonjo Shelvey saying ‘give it to me from kick-off, I’m putting it on his head’. He did exactly that – he’s got crazy technique. He put it right on my head, and I won the header. That gave me confidence.”

Shelvey – who has signed a new deal at United – was sent off for stamping on Dele Alli’s ankle.
