Newcastle had five players representing their counrties in Qatar plus an incoming signing in Garang Kuol of Australia. Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson and Nick Pope were all involved in the England squad while Fabian Schar and Bruno Guimaraes represented Switzerland and Brazil respectively.
All six players saw their nations progress out of the group stages yet none of them made it further than the quarter-finals. So now, with all six of the players’ tournaments officially over, we have a look at how many minutes each of them got in Qatar.

5. Fabian Schar - 152 minutes
The Switzerland defender played all 103 minutes of the final group stage win against Serbia to help his nation progress to the last 16. Schar then started against Portugal but was withdrawn at half-time as he was suffering from illness. Switzerland went on to lose the match 6-1.
6. Kieran Trippier - 242 minutes
The Newcastle right-back started England’s opening two group stage matches against Iran and USA before coming off the bench in the win over Wales. Trippier wasn’t used in either of England’s two knockout round matches. Including added time, Trippier played 117 minutes against Iran, 96 minutes v USA and 29 minutes v Wales, making him the most used Newcastle player in Qatar. Photo: KIRILL KUDRYAVTSEV
