Newcastle United star ruled out for nine games as worrying injury update emerges
Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier is facing a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
Kieran Trippier has missed Newcastle United’s last three matches after suffering a hamstring injury during the November international break.

Now the right-back could be out until after Christmas following an update from Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe.
The Magpies have a busy run of fixtures coming up with Trippier’s two former clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley visiting St James’ Park on Tuesday night (8:15pm kick-off) and Saturday afternoon (3pm kick-off), respectively.
Howe’s side then travel to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League before a short trip to Sunderland for the return of the Tyne-Wear derby in the Premier League. A Carabao Cup quarter-final against Fulham at St James’ Park follows on December 17 before they host Chelsea in the Premier League on December 20.
While it is hoped Trippier will be back in contention sooner, Trippier could end up missing all of those matches in addition to the three he has already been forced to sit out.

Eddie Howe provides Kieran Trippier injury update
Speaking about Trippier’s injury, Howe said: “Yeah, he had a scan on his hamstring. We think it's roughly around a month, give or take. That's the diagnosis. Fingers crossed we can get him back quickly.”
Roughly a month from the scan result would give Trippier a return date around the Manchester United match at Old Trafford on Boxing Day. The Red Devils are Trippier’s boyhood club, having grown up in Bury.
The right-back will be pushing for a return to action before the new year with a trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley Newcastle’s final match of 2025 on December 30.
But Trippier’s absence causes a slight problem for Howe heading into a busy fixture schedule.

Newcastle United full-back dilemma
Trippier’s absence as well as a knee injury to Emil Krafth leaves Newcastle with just two recognised full-backs heading into the festive period.
Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall are arguably Newcastle’s first-choice full-backs, but both have only recently returned from extended injury absences and will have to be managed carefully.
Dan Burn has had to fill in at left-back in Hall’s absence while Trippier had previously been playing in place of Livramento.
Livramento was withdrawn during Newcastle’s 2-1 Champions League defeat at Marseille and with no Trippier or Krafth available to come on, 19-year-old midfielder Lewis Miley slotted in at right-back.
“I have always had my eye on Lewy potentially being able to play that role,” Howe admitted.
“It is difficult because we haven't seen him play it a lot and it is not something we have necessarily looked to do a lot in training because we don't want to take from his development as a midfielder."
It’s something The Magpies may see more of in the coming weeks as Howe looks to manage his squad carefully and navigate a tricky schedule.
Hall in particular has struggled with his fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a foot injury followed by a hamstring issue.
