“If you’re going to get a striker on loan then Dwight Gayle… he is a must. Leeds need to try everything they can to get him.”

Magpies boss Steve Bruce last week reiterated his want to keep Gayle on Tyneside, amid January interest from a number of Championship clubs.

The 29-year-old is third choice striker at United this season and had managed just four appearances since his return from injury.
