Wins at Crystal Palace then over West Brom have seen Steve Bruce’s Magpies put a more than respectable 17 points on the board from their opening 11 games of the Premier League season.
Tonight they face Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites, who have impressed on their return to the top flight but still sit two places and three points behind the Magpies heading into the Elland Road clash.
After the COVID-19 crisis seems to have been brought under control and selections fears have been allayed somewhat, who will Bruce call upon this evening to get the job done in Yorkshire?
Our NUFC writer Liam Kennedy takes a look at the options and picks the side he would send out against Leeds...

9. Central midfield - Jonjo Shelvey
Not one of his more influential displays at the weekend but there are very few in the United ranks breaking down the door to displace the stand-in skipper. Needs to improve his levels from the West Brom show. Photo: RICHARD SELLERS

10. Left midfield - Matt Ritchie
Ritchie lacks a yard or two in pace these days but brings an experience, a quality of delivery and a reliability like few others in the United squad. I also think Lewis could do with the protection. Photo: JAN KRUGER

11. Centre forward - Joelinton
A tale of two halves for the Brazilian at the weekend, confident and involved early on, then back to the old days as the West Brom win wore on. He is improving, but it is baby steps. Dwight Gayle, when fully fit, walks back into the side. He might even do so this evening. Photo: JAN KRUGER

12. Centre forward - Callum Wilson
The first name on the teamsheet - and for that reason needs little justification. Even when not scoring, as per the weekend, he was impressive with his pace and power. Photo: ALEX PANTLING
