'Lucky' Newcastle United have the 'best goals to shot ratio in world football' – fans react to Magpies' Spurs draw

Newcastle United carried their fair share of luck at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – and somehow, inexplicably came away with a share of the spoils against Jose Mourinho & Co.

Some late VAR penalty controversy and a late, late Callum Wilson penalty ensured United headed back up to Tyneside with a point, if somewhat undeservedly so.

And while fans on #NUFC Twitter were overjoyed, there is a realisation the late equaliser is papering over the cracks for Steve Bruce and his Newcastle United players.

Here’s some of the best reaction online, featuring Karl Darlow’s Tim Krul impression and Joelinton praise...

@Stephencoulson_ – “That’ll be our season in a nutshell. We’ll lose, we’ll manage to win the odd game based on opposition having a poor game and we might get the odd lucky decision. A point’s a point but we’ve got no plan at all."

@BelfastNUFC – “Newcastle United with the best goal to shots on target ratio in world football right now.”

@ChezObrien – “Darlow’s performance today up there with Kruls when we won 1-0?”

@gallowgate_pete – “This sort of luck does not last in the long term...”

@philh1987 – “Today shows Joelinton is far better on the left, which is were he tore it up in Germany. And also the lone striker is a thankless task regardless of who plays up top.”

@megatoon1892 – “Funny thing is right if we beat Burnley and Newport this week we’d be in the quarter finals of the Cup and have 7 points out of our opening 4 games...”
