Mark Lawrenson predicts whether Newcastle United will 'get battered' in Watford clash

Newcastle United will look to dust themselves down following their 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City on Wednesday, and produce a positive performance as they take on relegation-battlers Watford this weekend.

Writing his latest predictions piece for BBC Sport, pundit Mark Lawrenson has tipped the Magpies to fall to another defeat, backing a 2-0 win for the Hornets.

Explaining his decision, Lawro wrote: "For whatever reason, Newcastle did not show up at Etihad Stadium on Wednesday and were basically beaten from the start.

"It is hard to know what to expect from the Magpies this time - they are safe so have nothing to play for, unlike Watford who are fighting for their lives.

"I'd have to back the Hornets here, but I'm expecting more of a fight from Newcastle. They won't get battered again."

Meanwhile, Lawro's opponent for the week, The Manor's Scott Stacks, opted for a 2-2 draw, and claimed: "Newcastle are one of the teams who seem to be thriving without fans putting pressure on them.

"When there can be a pretty toxic atmosphere at St James' Park because of the way their supporters view their owner. The Magpies got a good win on the road too, over Bournemouth, and I think they will get something from this one."

The last time the two sides met, back in August, Newcastle were held to a 1-1 draw at St. James' Park. In recent history, the Magpies have a poor record against Saturday's opponents, winning just two of their last ten encounters.
