Mauricio Pochettino 'interested' in Newcastle United job
Newcastle United’s prospective owners are prepared to pay Mauricio Pochettino £19million-a-year as manager, according to a report.
Pochettino has been strongly linked with the club ahead of the completion of a £300million takeover.
The 48-year-old is still on the payroll of Tottenham Hotspur following his dismissal last November, but clubs can reportedly take him from May 19 without paying compensation.
And Sky Sports report that Pochettino is the “No.1 choice” of financier Amanda Staveley and her backers, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and billionaire property investors David and Simon Reuben. Pochettino – who took Tottenham to last season’s Champions League final – is said to be “interested” in the job.
The Gazette reported earlier this month that head coach Steve Bruce – who has two years left on his contract at St James’s Park – was safe in his position until the end of the season.
