Newcastle have agreed a £10million deal that will see Almiron return to his former club on a long-term contract until 2029. The Paraguayan is travelling to complete his transfer to the MLS side from whom he left to join Newcastle for £21million back in 2019.
Almiron has made 223 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 30 goals across his six-year spell at St James’ Park. The 30-year-old was out of contract in the summer of 2026 and had started just once in the Premier League so far this season with a transfer exit decided as the best option for all parties.

Ghodoussi tweeted: “Miguel Almiron. Best of luck my friend.”
Ghodoussi left Newcastle last summer alongside his partner Amanda Staveley. The pair were instrumental in the takeover of Newcastle United back in October 2021 with their company acquiring a 10% stake in the club as a result.
That stake was then diluted before being sold entirely last summer with the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and RB Sports & Media absorbing the remaining shares in the club.

Hide AdGhodoussi and Staveley have since been linked with investing in football with Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur understood to have been of particular interest.
“Very sadly, we have to move on to other projects and that might involve us taking a stake in another club or buying another club and that’s difficult,” Staveley told The Athletic after leaving Newcastle. “But it’s possible.”
Ghodoussi has also been spotted watching Chelsea in the director’s box at Stamford Bridge alongside Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali and sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Larence Stewart.
Staveley is set to be appointed in an ‘advisory role’ at the Saudi Arabian Football Federation linked to the 2034 World Cup in Saudi Arabia. The former Newcastle co-owner is set to be used as a ‘sounding board’ as world football prepares for a second Winter World Cup in the Middle East.
