Newcastle United have been warned off making a summer move for rising Middlesbrough star Hayden Coulson.

The Sun on Sunday claim United have been keeping tabs on the Gateshead-born 21-year-old, who has been a revelation down the left for Jonathan Woodgate’s Championship strugglers this campaign.

But the Evening Gazette are reporting Boro will reject ‘out of hand’ any summer move by the Magpies for the England youth international.

The report claims “Boro chiefs will not entertain any approach” for Coulson, with the player seen as a major “part of the future framework of the club”.

United were said to be weighing up a £10million move for Coulson, who can operate at left-back or left midfield.

The Magpies are certain to sign a left-sided player in the summer with Jetro Willems’ recovery from a knee operation being monitored.

A move for the Netherlands international could be progressed, with framework of a deal totalling more than £10million already in place.
