Mike Ashley changes the narrative at Newcastle United
The sold out signs are up at St James’s Park for the first time this season.
The club’s December 28 home game against Everton has sold out – after the club gave away 10,000 half-season tickets.
Steve Bruce called on the club to do more for hard-up fans after just 42,303 watched the club’s last home game. United’s head coach said: “It’s difficult for people to afford to come to the matches, so maybe there’s something we can do as a club to try to get the numbers up.”
Thousands of supporters have stayed away this season in protest at owner Mike Ashley after Rafa Benitez left St James’s Park in the summer following the expiry of his contract. There was a boycott of the Arsenal game, and the club’s attendances have been closely scrutinised.
However, crowds at St James’s Park be at or close to capacity from the Everton game following the ticket giveaway.
