Mikel Arteta reveals his view on Joe Willock's Newcastle United loan from Arsenal

Willock, on loan from Arsenal came off the bench and scored the winner in Saturday’s 3-2 victory over West Ham United. The strike took his goal tally for the club to three from nine appearances, and Arteta was asked about the midfielder’s form after his team were held to a 1-1 draw by Newcastle’s relegation rivals Fulham at the Emirates Stadium yesterday.

“I’m really happy with Joe, because he scored a massive goal for their club,” said Arsenal’s manager. “So when he produces big moments like that, for a young talent like him, it’s very satisfying.

“Joe can do it. He has got the ability and the desire, and now he needs more consistency in terms of minutes and performances. That’s great for his development, and that’s why we believed it (the loan) was the right option.”

United head coach Steve Bruce wants to keep Willock, 21, at the club beyond the summer.
