Newcastle defender Jamal Lewis has been called up to the Northern Ireland squad for their upcoming international fixtures.

Ian Baraclough’s side will play three games later this month, including their first 2022 World Cup qualifying fixtures against Italy (Thursday, 25 March) and Bulgaria (Wednesday, 31 March), as well as a friendly against USA (Sunday 28 March).

Lewis, 23, has been a regular for his national side in recent months and has now earned 12 international caps after featuring in Northern Ireland’s last three matches.

The left-back has been left out of Newcastle’s starting XI for the last two games, though, and was an unused substitute against West Brom and Aston Villa, when Paul Dummett started ahead of him.

Steve Bruce’s side are now preparing for Saturday’s huge game at Brighton, with both sides languishing just above the bottom three.

After the international break, the Magpies face a home meeting with Tottenham on Sunday, 4 April.
