Newcastle enter race for teenage talent, In-demand defender linked - Transfer recap

Another January transfer window, another barrage of speculation linking Newcastle United with just about any and every footballer you can shake a stick at.

The Magpies are darlings of the gossip column, and it’s almost become a running joke that they are thrown into articles willy-nilly as a means of padding out word counts and bolstering the reported interest in any player who shows even the slightest inclination of leaving his current employers.

Monday was no different, and the Toon Army have been linked with two fresh faces, both of who are supposedly more likely to go move elsewhere.

First up, we have Moises Caicedo. The Ecuadorian midfielder was linked with Manchester United until very recently, and it is understood that now the Reds have cooled their interest, Newcastle could be in the running for his signature.

If they are, they’ll have to move quickly, however, with Sky Sports reporting that Brighton have already launched an official bid for the teenager.

Elsewhere, Italian publication La Repubblica have the Magpies down as potential suitors for Norwegian left-back Fredrik Andre Bjorkan.

Again, they’re far from frontrunners, however, with Sampdoria said to be very interested in the 22-year-old, Leeds United and Norwich City ready to provide competition to snap him up.

The defender currently plies his trade in his home country for the unusually-christened FK Bodo/Glimt and on the basis of the report coming out of Italy, it would appear that Newcastle have little more than a passing interest in him – for now at least.
