Newcastle to face Middlesbrough as Magpies step up preparations for 2020/21 Premier League season

Newcastle will face North East neighbours Middlesbrough at the start of next month as Steve Bruce’s side step up preparations for the 2020/21 season.

The Magpies will travel to Teesside on Tuesday, September 1 (1pm kick-off), after a friendly at Crewe on Tuesday, August 25 and warm-up match against Barnsley on Saturday, August 29.

Due to the current pandemic and the Government guidelines around it, spectators will not be able to attend the Middlesbrough match, or any pre-season friendlies, which will be played behind closed doors.

The Boro fixture will take place 11 days before the start of the new Premier League season, with fixtures set to be released later this week.

Newcastle and Middlesbrough met at United's Benton training ground for a friendly in June, with the Magpies winning 3-2 courtesy of goals from Yoshinori Muto, Miguel Almiron and Joelinton.
