Eddie Howe’s side travel to the City Ground on the back of a hard-earned but deserved 2-1 win against Wolves, aiming to do the double against Forest following their 2-0 win on opening day.
However, Steve Cooper’s side have proven to be a tough nut to crack at home this season and will be a major test for Howe’s side.
Whilst Newcastle do have a few injury concerns to contend with ahead of Friday’s game, this is nothing compared to their hosts who have an injury crisis on their hands.
Here, we take a look at the latest injury news from both camps ahead of Friday’s game and the estimated return dates of all those impacted by injury.

. Anthony Gordon
Gordon missed the win over Wolves after sustaining an ankle injury against Manchester City a week prior. He will miss the trip to the City Ground and will be assessed during the international break with hopes of him returning for the game with Manchester United. Howe said: “That’s the plan. We’re trying. The scan wasn’t plain sailing, it wasn't a shoe-in. It wasn’t a week or two injury. It’s slightly more serious than that, so we're doing everything we can to get him back as quickly as possible. At the moment he’s in a period where he’s staying off the grass, staying off his feet, and the injury’s healing. It feels good, but he’s got work to do to get ready for that game.” Estimated return date = 02/04 v Manchester United (h). Photo: PAUL ELLIS

. Ryan Yates
Yates has featured off the bench for Forest during their last two Premier League games and played over an hour for the Under-21’s earlier this week. He is expected to be available for the game with Newcastle United. Estimated return date = 17/03 v Newcastle United (h). Photo: Justin Setterfield

. Wayne Hennessey
Hennessy was not named on the bench for the defeat to Spurs last weekend after suffering a knee injury. Cooper said: “Wayne felt his knee, so he wasn’t able to go on the bench.” Estimated return date = unknown. Photo: Michael Regan

. Callum Wilson
Wilson started the game with Wolves on the bench and Howe revealed post-match that the striker has been suffering with illness. Howe said: “A little bit of illness with Callum, nothing serious, but it was a difficult week for him, as I said. He missed training from very early in the week. He did very, very well to make himself available today, and it’s not lost on me, because he was a key sub. He wasn't 100% to take to the pitch, but he did that for the cause.” Wilson wasn't pictured in first-team training on Wednesday. ![Johnson left the field during Forests’ last outing with a groin injury and is set to be assessed ahead of Friday’s game. Cooper said:"The scan tells you something but you have to treat the player. It’s unlikely that Brennan will be involved at the weekend but there’s a small chance. We want to give him every chance to see if he’s available and if he is, great, if not it’s just one of those things. I’m not completely ruling him out but at the same time when you walk off with a muscle injury it can take a bit longer than a week to recover. It would be disappointing [if Johnson can't play] but these things do happen. We’d love all of our players to be available and vying for a position to be in the team, but unfortunately on that front it hasn’t gone so well in the last couple of months. As I always say, you have to focus on the guys that are available to play and they are getting maximum attention from myself and the staff and full support as well." 5. Brennan Johnson
Johnson left the field during Forests’ last outing with a groin injury and is set to be assessed ahead of Friday’s game. Cooper said:"The scan tells you something but you have to treat the player. It’s unlikely that Brennan will be involved at the weekend but there’s a small chance. We want to give him every chance to see if he’s available and if he is, great, if not it’s just one of those things. 6. Taiwo Awoniyi
Awoniyi joined Forest in the summer and has four goals in 16 Premier League games this season. However, he hasn’t been seen in action since picking up a groin injury in January. He will miss the game with Newcastle on Friday. Cooper said: 'Taiwo is making good progress. He is out on the grass, and he's running. He's not with the team yet and not kicking any balls, but he's still weeks away from being close to training. But he is making good steps.' Estimated return date = 01/04 v Wolves (h). 7. Emil Krafth
Krafth suffered an ACL injury during the Carabao Cup clash with Tranmere Rovers back in August. The Sweden international isn’t likely to return to first-team action this season, however, he recently posted an update revealing he is back on the grass. Krafth said: "It's the first time I've had a long-term injury so you don't really know how to handle it. You don't know the rehab process and everything is new to you. However, my motto is 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger' and I think I'm going to come back stronger than ever before.” Estimated return date = 2023/24 pre-season. Photo: Stu Forster

8. Cheikhou Kouyate
The 33-year-old hasn’t featured for Forest since being injured at the Qatar World Cup, but the former West Ham man could make his return to action this week. SPeaking ahead of the SPurs game, Cooper said: “Cheikhou Kouyate has done a little bit of training this week so he’s close. We didn’t want to risk him today when the snow came down as it would have been silly to do that, but he’s been back training.” Estimated return date = 17/03 v Newcastle United (h). Photo: John Powell
